MDA to provide RADARSAT-2 information to support maritime surveillance
Media Release: March 30, 2016
Richmond, BC - MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. ("MDA" or the "Company") (TSX: MDA), a global communications and information company, today announced that it has signed two contract amendments extending the provision of RADARSAT-2 information. Collecte Localisation Satellites (CLS) will extend its contract until February 2017, and ScanEX Research and Development Centre (ScanEx) will extend its contract until December 2019.
CLS relies on RADARSAT-2 imaging capabilities for maritime surveillance and the detection of illegal, unregulated and non-reporting fishing vessels around the Kerguelen Islands in the southern Indian Ocean. ScanEx uses RADARSAT-2 information to support applications relating to disaster management, natural resource management, and ice monitoring.
The RADARSAT-2 satellite has global high-resolution surveillance capabilities that include a large collection capacity and high accuracy data acquisition. The satellite acquires data regardless of light or weather condition, provides frequent re-visit imaging options, and is supported by international ground receiving stations that provide near real-time information delivery services. This versatility makes RADARSAT-2 a reliable source of information for maritime monitoring, ice monitoring and other applications.
