Dark Vessel Detection
In partnership with Canada’s Department of Fisheries and Oceans, we use our RADARSAT-2 satellite to help stop illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing. Every year this activity steals billions from the global economy, damages ocean ecosystems and harms the food security of coastal nations.
No signal. No problem.
Unlike registered fishing boats, dark vessels don’t have identification systems so they can’t be tracked. With radar imaging, every boat on the ocean becomes visible, regardless of weather conditions or restricted waters. Cross-checking against registered signals reveals which ships don’t belong.
