Lunar Dawn Team Awarded NASA Lunar Terrain Vehicle Contract

MDA Space is a member of the Lunar Dawn team that NASA selected yesterday to start development of a human-rated Moon rover, which is a key part of NASA’s Artemis mission. I couldn’t be more thrilled!

We’ll be working with an impressive team of industry leaders – prime contractor Lunar Outpost principal partner Lockheed Martin Space and teammates General Motors and The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company – to design and develop a next-generation off-road Lunar Terrain Vehicle for exploring, living and working on the Moon.

Our role will be to design the robust, versatile robotic arm and robotic interfaces that will enable the rover to transport and manipulate a variety of payloads. You can bet we’ll be bringing our decades of human spaceflight robotics expertise to the job.

This is a proud moment for MDA Space and an especially exciting one for all of us on the space robotics team. These are the kinds of programs and opportunities space engineers live for - the chance to innovate with the best of the best, design for the harshest of environments, meet no-margin-for-error requirements, engineer for autonomous operation that will go further and longer than anything before it, design for diverse applications, and create a capability critical for humanity’s future in space.

Congratulations to our fellow Lunar Dawn teammates. Can’t wait to get started.
