Express AM 5/6
The Express AM5 and Express AM6 satellites were created for the Russian Radio Research and Development Institute. The two satellites are operated by Moscow-based Russian Satellite Communications Co. (RSCC) and provide a broad suite of commercial and government telecommunications services in the C-, Ku-, Ka– and L-band frequencies. This project was instrumental in positioning us as a leader in payload development.
Our payload systems are designed for on-orbit performance and reliability. We developed technology for the AM5 and AM6 satellites such as antennas, converters, amplifiers and transponders. All payloads for the project were designed, manufactured and tested in our Montreal facility.
- 162 – Transponders we provided between both satellites
- 1030 kg – Mass of the payload
- 14,200 W – Power each satellite generates using a pair of five-panel solar arrays
- 4 – Types of communication frequencies carried by the payload: L-band, C-band, Ku-band and Ka-band
