MDA Space Ranked in the Top 35 of Canada’s Top 100 Corporate R&D Spenders

MDA Space has once again placed in the #33 position on Research Infosource Inc.’s annual list of Canada’s Top 100 Corporate R&D Spenders, with a total research and development (R&D) spend in FY2023 of $111.7 million.

These numbers reflect the strategic R&D investments that MDA Space is making to lead in the rapidly expanding space economy. There’s a bigger picture behind these numbers though. And it’s about what we do with that R&D.

Across all of our businesses, our teams take novel ideas, breakthrough inventions and new knowledge and turn them into differentiating new solutions that bring value to customers. R&D is the essential starting point of an innovation path through every part of the company – from business development through product management, manufacturing, operations and services. It is how we continue to provide MDA Space customers with game-changing next-generation space products and services, including:

·        MDA AURORA™– our new software-defined satellite product line with a complete range of modular digital products and components to support customer demand as the industry transitions from analog to digital satellite technologies and as satellite operators look to improve performance while driving time, cost and complexity out of their constellation networks.

·        MDA CHORUS™ – our next-generation radar satellite constellation for Earth observation missions, which will include several significant innovations to provide the most extensive radar imaging capacity available on the market in one system, along with faster, higher-resolution data collection, and enhanced analytics services.

·        MDA SKYMAKER™ – our new suite of space robotics to meet the growing needs of the international space market, bringing cost-effective, flexible space robotics for a variety of missions, including lunar surface rovers and landers, space stations, satellite servicing in all orbits, and in-space assembly and manufacturing.

We’re proud to be among Canada’s innovation leaders. And we’re proud of the growing industry recognition we receive for our innovation, including as one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies of 2024 and most recently with the Globe and Mail CEO Award for Innovator of the Year, which is a reflection of the efforts of everyone at MDA Space – our talented team of over 3,000 space engineers, scientists, technicians and business leaders who are key to growing the company’s reputation, and global leadership, as a space technology pioneer.

What a way to end the year,

Mike
